Ali Mokhtari earned his PhD in the Precision Agriculture Lab at the Technical University of Munich, where his research asked whether satellites can reveal when crop water and nitrogen availability limit growth in wheat fields. His work delivered a set of well-connected advances: a method to estimate crop water use from optical satellites such as Sentinel-2 without thermal data, a model combining crop water status and chlorophyll to predict wheat yield, a new concept for predicting plant nitrogen, and an elegant equation linking soil moisture to evaporation. Guided by a philosophy of building physically grounded, interpretable, and transferable tools, his research bridges satellite remote sensing, soil physics, and crop physiology.
Before his doctorate, Ali completed an MSc in Irrigation and Drainage Engineering at the University of Tehran and worked in remote sensing at the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad’s Water and Environmental Research Institute and the Iranian Space Agency. Since 2024 he has been a remote sensing scientist at Spatial Business Integration GmbH, focusing on hydrology, vegetation monitoring, and multispectral and hyperspectral applications.
