Drones Meet AI - Summer Hackathon 2026

The Summer Hackathon 2026 is a 2-week intensive Master-level course organized by the TUM Precision Agriculture Lab, bringing together students and early-career researchers to tackle real-world challenges at the intersection of drone-based remote sensing and artificial intelligence.

Program Overview

Participants will work in interdisciplinary teams on a shared challenge, using UAV imagery and AI methods to extract meaningful insights for agricultural and environmental applications.

The program combines:

  • Hands-on coding sessions with real drone-acquired datasets
  • Team-based problem solving in collaborative environments
  • Expert mentoring from researchers in remote sensing, agronomy, and AI
  • Final challenge presentation where teams showcase their solutions

The Challenge

Over the intensive two-week period, student teams will:

  • Process and analyze multispectral UAV imagery (with a focus on multispectral images)
  • Develop AI-powered solutions for agricultural applications
  • Apply computer vision and deep learning techniques
  • Extract meaningful features and compute vegetation indices
  • Build machine learning models for crop monitoring and trait prediction

🏆 Hackathon Award

The course concludes with a final challenge presentation, where teams will present their solutions to a panel of experts.

One team will be selected as the winner of the hackathon challenge, recognized for their innovative approach, technical excellence, and practical impact.
